WASHINGTON — June 2, 2026 — Ross Eisenberg, president of America's Plastic Makers, joined the Powering America Podcast to discuss the significance of the Recycled Materials Attribution Act. The episode covers how this legislation aims to modernize recycling infrastructure, enhance economic development, and support the energy transition in the United States.
Eisenberg emphasized the need for a shift from a linear to a circular model in plastic production and recycling. He stated, "Let's make it circular. Let's have the policies in place to make it circular so that we're not worrying about trash in the environment anymore." He highlighted that the current recycling system, established in the 1970s, is outdated and needs modernization to address the complexities of modern plastic products.
The Recycled Materials Attribution Act is designed to provide clarity on the use of advanced recycling technologies. Eisenberg noted, "If we can solve this recycling issue and the end-of-life issue for plastics, it will not only help us environmentally, it will be a tremendous economic driver for the US economy." The act aims to incentivize brands to incorporate recycled materials into their products, ultimately boosting job creation and economic growth.
America's Plastic Makers is the trade association representing the plastic manufacturing industry in the United States. The organization advocates for policies that support sustainable practices and economic growth within the plastics sector.
