Joel Riddle, CEO of Polar LNG, discusses the company's role in enhancing U.S. energy security through liquefied natural gas (LNG) production. Key topics include infrastructure development and Arctic development, highlighting the strategic importance of Polar LNG in the current energy landscape.

WASHINGTON — May 25, 2026 — Joel Riddle, CEO of Polar LNG, joined the Powering America Podcast to discuss the company's ambitious plans for one of the largest new LNG projects in the United States. The conversation covered the significance of liquefied natural gas in energy security, infrastructure development, and the challenges of Arctic development.

Riddle emphasized that Polar LNG aims to produce 21 million tons of LNG annually, with the first phase expected to deliver 7 million tons by 2029 or 2030. He noted the project's accelerated timeline is made possible by acquiring equipment originally intended for a Russian Arctic project, which has been impacted by U.S. sanctions. Riddle stated, "Polar LNG is one of the largest new LNG projects that are gonna be built in the US in the next five years."

The discussion also addressed the recent geopolitical events affecting global LNG supply. Riddle pointed out that an attack on facilities in Qatar had removed 20% of the world's LNG supply from the market. He remarked, "What you just mentioned was very unfortunate, because with the conflict and that the attack on the facilities in Qatar that took 20% of the world's LNG supply off the market." He sees this as an opportunity for U.S. projects like Polar LNG to fill the gap and enhance energy security for allies in Asia and Europe.

Riddle highlighted the challenges of stranded gas in the North Slope, stating, "Stranded gas in the North Slope has been one of the key industry challenges, and a lot of companies have tried to commercialize that gas." He believes that with the right technology and community support, Polar LNG can pave the way for significant development in the region.

Polar LNG is focused on developing one of the largest liquefied natural gas projects in the United States, located in the North Slope of Alaska. The project aims to enhance energy security while supporting local communities and infrastructure development.
